The forth edition of the program will cover a broad range of trending and relevant legal aspects of data driven businesses. The teaching content will focus on selected content of the Data Economy Law, LL.M (next run Oct 1, 2025) including Data Licensing, Artificial Intelligence and alternative dispute resolution. The Summer School has been jointly developed by the following five partner universities:

Scholars and experts from all partner universities and from legal practice will lecture on selected aspects of the data economy.

The Summer School will start with a two-week online preparatory course – followed by a final face-to-face week which will take place at the beautiful mountainous village Reichenau/Rax in Lower Austria. International legal practitioners and scientists will provide state of the art lectures and workshops to all our core subjects. For successfully completion a certificate worth 3 ECTS will be awarded.

Academic Program:

Online Preparatory Course (Aug 18, 2025 – Aug 30, 2025)

The students will be assigned to 4 groups based on the focus topics of the Summer School:

• Fundamentals of IP and ICT Law
• Fundamentals of Data Protection Law
• Data Driven Business Models
• Transnational Business Law

Each group will be responsible to elaborate and discuss one legal case which has to be presented in front of the class on the final day in the last week. Additionally, every main topic will offer a list of reading material and a self-assessment quiz so that the participants can see for themselves if they really understand the respective topic. Each group will be supported by a tutor on their group work.

Face-to-Face Course (Aug 31, 2025 – Sep 5, 2025)

In our last week, all participants will meet in Reichenau/Rax for on-site lectures, workshops and legal discussions. In addition, we also want to emphasize the network experience of our event and provide a social program for all interested students.
The renowned hotel “Flackl-Wirt” will serve as the venue for our lectures and offers modern classrooms while maintaining the cozy feel of an alpine lodge. To provide housing next to the classroom the Summer School team already pre-booked rooms at “Flackl-Wirt” for students (shared rooms for three to six people). However, if participants prefer individual accommodation there are other options available in town e.g., “Hotel Marienhof”.

The Summer School addresses High Potentials (undergraduates, graduates, doctoral/PhD students) and welcomes applicants from all across the globe.

The Summer School is tuition-free. You only have to cover your travel and housing costs as well as your daily expenditures.

Es erwarten Dich Einblicke in ein breites Spektrum an aktuellen und relevanten rechtlichen Problemstellungen von datengesteuerten Unternehmen. In der bereits vierten Auflage zeigt das Programm ausgewählte Inhalte des LL.M.-Studiengangs Data Economy Law (nächster Starttermin 1.Oktober 2025). Die Summer School wurde von einem Team aus fünf europäischen Partneruniversitäten entwickelt:

Die Summer School besteht aus einem zweiwöchigen Online-Vorbereitungskurs - gefolgt von einer abschließenden Präsenzwoche in Reichenau an der Rax in Niederösterreich. Der Ort liegt an den östlichen Ausläufern der österreichischen Alpen und bietet wunderbare Natur und eine entspannte Atmosphäre. Internationale Juristen und Wissenschaftler werden zu den Kernthemen Vorträge und Workshops anbieten und Einblicke in die Welt von „Data Economy Law“ ermöglichen. Alle erfolgreichen Teilnehmer_innen erwerben ein Zertifikat im Wert von 3 ECTS.

Aktuelles Programm:
Online-Vorbereitungskurs (18. August 2025 - 30. August 2025)

Die Studenten werden in 4 Gruppen eingeteilt, die sich an den Schwerpunktthemen der Summer School orientieren:

• Grundlagen des IP- und ICT-Rechts
• Grundlagen des Datenschutzrechts
• Datengetriebene Geschäftsmodelle
• Transnationales Wirtschaftsrecht

Jede Gruppe hat die Aufgabe, einen Rechtsfall auszuarbeiten und zu diskutieren, der am letzten Tag in der Präsenzwoche vor der Klasse präsentiert wird. Zusätzlich gibt es zu jedem Schwerpunktthema Lesematerial und ein Quiz zur Selbsteinschätzung, damit die Studierenden selbst überprüfen können, ob sie das jeweilige Thema wirklich verstanden haben. Jede Gruppe wird bei ihrem Projekt von einem Tutor unterstützt.

Face-to-Face-Kurs (31. August 2025 - 5. September 2025)

In der letzten Woche der Summer School finden Vorträge, Workshops und juristische Diskussionen vor Ort in Reichenau/Rax statt. Darüber hinaus wollen wir auch den Netzwerkgedanken unserer Veranstaltung betonen und bieten ein lockeres Rahmenprogramm für alle interessierten Studierenden an.

Das renommierte Hotel „Flackl-Wirt“ wird als Veranstaltungsort für unsere Vorträge dienen und verbindet moderne Unterrichtsräume mit der Gemütlichkeit einer Alpen-Chalets. Für die Unterbringung in unmittelbarer Nähe der Unterrichtsräume hat das Team der Summer School bereits Zimmer im „Flackl-Wirt“ vorreserviert (Mehrbettzimmer für drei bis sechs Personen). Wer jedoch eine individuelle Unterkunft bevorzugt, findet auch andere Möglichkeiten zur Nächtigung in der Nähe, z. B. das „Hotel Marienhof“.

Die Summer School richtet sich an High Potentials (Student_innen, Absolvent_innen) und heißt Bewerber aus allen Teilen der Welt willkommen.
